[Class 38 (i)] [Also in Groups XXV and XXVIII] A coupling for cables or wires consists of a cylindrical sleeve 1, tapered at one end, into which are passed two jaw members 6, a central spring 10 and two caps 4 for the ends of the cables &c., before reducing or tapering the other end. The conical jaws 6 are split by slots S, which can be opened by inserting a key, with a flattened end 14, in holes 9. The ends of the jaws consist of thin rings 7. In another form, the outer sleeve is in two parts 1, 2, connected together by a screwed plug 3 and a cotter pin 12. The caps are dispensed with and there are two springs 11.
