Abstract

366,319. Pistons. FORTUNE, G. S., 361, Revidge Road, Blackburn, and FORTUNE, S. L., Asterville, Chirnside, Berwickshire. March 10, 1931, No. 7314. [Class 122 (i).] Rings are inserted into their grooves, and the pistons into their cylinders, by means of a split, spring sleeve A the exterior portion of which is reduced for a portion of its length a<1> and tapered slightly to a thin edge a<2>. The other portion of the sleeve is provided with a gripping surface, and the bore of the sleeve is chamfered or rounded at its end a<4>. The split portion a is made wide enough to pass over the connecting- rod C. To insert the rings in the piston, the rings b are slid over the sleeve, and the sleeve slid over the piston, Fig. 3. To insert the piston in the cylinder, the sleeve is first slid over the piston containing the rings to close them in, and then the piston slid through the sleeve into the cylinder, Fig. 5.
