Abstract

372,432. Piston rings. FLEXION CO., 60, State Street, Boston, U.S.A. Feb. 16, 1931, No. 4915. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1930. [Class 122 (i).] A piston ring comprises several metal ribbons corrugated and pressed together in close formation. The middle ribbon 10 is of steel, the outer ribbons being; of softer metal. The corrugations 41 on one or both corrugated faces are swaged over to form flat continuous surfaces 13 which may be disposed parallel to the cylinder wall or at right-angles thereto. The ends 21, 22 of the ring are dovetailed together and guided by a wire 23 secured to the one end and sliding in a hole in the other. A sleeve having an internal tapered bore is used to facilitate entry of the piston into the cylinder.
