Platinum, an alloy of platinum with rhodium or indium, or nickelchrome alloy is used for the terminals. Either molten silver is run into the central bore or solid silver inserted and subsequently fused. Except at their inner ends, the terminals are coated with chromium, and heated to a redheat. The terminals may be ir the form of wires, of a cap crimped over the insulator, of a star with a dome entering the central bore or of a cup fitting within the bore The insulation consists of a sintered, highly refractory oxide
