Abstract
492,256. Belt-fastenings. WEVER, P., and WHEATLEY, E. April 23, 1938, No. 12209. [Class 80 (i)] In a tongs device comprising jaws 6b, 7b, actuated by toggles 6a, 7a for pressing connecting-hooks 5 into driving and conveyer belts, as described in Specification 459,330, the handles 26 for actuating the toggles are arranged horizontally, instead of for vertical operation, as described in the prior Specification. The handles 26 are pivoted together at 27 and extended for connection by links 28 to opposite ends of the pin 29 which connects the toggles 6a, 7a together, this pin being moved along the slot 19a so as to close the jaws on to the hooks when the handles 26 are moved in the direction of the arrows, Fig. 2. In a modification, the horizontal handles are arranged at opposite sides of the vertically-operating handles described in the prior Specification, so that either may be used.
