Abstract
491,174. Extracting ingots. UNITED STEEL COS., Ltd., and BACON, N. H. April 28, 1937, No. 12159. [Class 83 (i)] Moulds.-Ingots are stripped by connecting a plurality of moulds 4 by a hood 2, lifting the assemblage from its base 1, as by means of hooks engaging lugs 21, as soon as the cast metal has formed a sufficient crust, and then lowering onto a plate 11 having pins 10 to engage the ingots and force them to project through holes 8. The hood has holes to accommodate removable bars 5a, 5b which engage lugs 13, Fig. 5, on the tops of the moulds. In the case of bottom-pour moulds these have dovetail sliding joints 22a, 22b, Fig. 6, at their lower ends and the bars 5a, 5b are stepped as at S, Fig. 5, so that some of the moulds are raised before others and severance of the runners 25 is facilitated. The pins 10 are preferably detachable so that if, owing to one ingot sticking to its mould, stripping is prevented the corresponding pin can be removed from the plate 11 and the assemblage be again lowered so as to strip the other ingots. The faulty ingot can then be dealt with.
