Abstract

389,920. Magnetic separators. DARWINS, Ltd. and CATHERALL, A. C., Fitzwilliam Works, Templeborough, Sheffield. Dec. 9, 1931, No. 34091. [Class 72.] In a magnetic separator of the trough or tray type, the surface units 11 .. 15 are arranged with gaps 16 .. 19 between, the end units 11, 15 and/or some of the intermediate units being connected to bar magnets 20 arranged in parallel by conductors 21, 22. The units are held in position by a block 24 of low melting-point non-magnetic metal or alloy which is cast around them and the block 24 preferably also provides a frame round the units. The conductors 21, 22 are grooved at 26 so that the block 24 is attached securely thereto and the surface units are provided with countersunk holes 25 which are filled with portions of the block 24. The magnets 20 may be arranged in series instead of in parallel and the gaps 16 .. 19 may be straight or curved.
