Abstract
Water-soluble dyes for dyeing and printing cellulose esters and ethers are made by treating insoluble or difficulty soluble dyes which contain at least once the grouping <FORM:0490945/IV/1> , where R1 is hydrogen or an organic radicle and R2 is an organic radicle, at least one of these radicles containing a reactive halogen atom, with a thiosulphate, whereby a thiosulphuric group -S-SO3H, is introduced into the group R1 or R2. In a modification of the process, the thiosulphuric group is introduced in the same manner into an intermediate product and the latter is converted into the dyestuff. In examples, (1) 6-methoxy-2-aminobenzthiazole is diazotized and coupled with sodium N-butyl-anilino-ethane thiosulphate (made by heating N-(b -chlorethyl-butyl)-aniline with sodium thiosulphate; the product dyes acetate artificial silk from an aqueous bath containing sodium chloride or Glauber's salt or from a weak acid bath in clear bluish-red shades of good dischargeability; (2) the azo dye made by coupling diazotized p-nitraniline with N-(b -chlorethyl-butyl)-aniline is treated with sodium thiosulphate, the product dyes acetate artificial silk in red shades; (3) o-nitraniline is diazotized and coupled with sodium N-butylanilino thiosulphate; the product, when pasted with thiodiglycol and gum arabic, gives orange prints on acetate artificial silk fabrics; (4) the product obtained by treating N : N1-di(g -chlor-b -hydroxypropyl)-1 : 4-diaminoanthraquinone with sodium thiosulphate dyes acetate artificial silk in reddish-blue shades; (5) the product obtained by the reaction of the condensation product of N-(b -chlorethyl-butyl)-p-aminobenzaldehyde (see Specification 456,534) and cyanacetic ester with sodium thiosulphate gives greenish-yellow shades on acetate artificial silk; and (6) p-nitraniline is diazotized and coupled with sodium N-benzylanilino-ethane thiosulphate, made by treating N-(b -chlorethylbenzyl)-aniline with sodium thiosulphate; the product dyes acetate artificial silk in scarlet shades which are dischargeable to a pure white,
