[Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXVIII and XXIV] A power actuator comprises a rod 9 connected to the part to be actuated, oppositely toothed on two sides, and connected to a piston 8 by which it is moved under the influence of fluid under pressure supplied through an inlet 36. This fluid also enters a conduit 26 and raises a piston 17 through which the rod passes, and with it a pawl 20 which engages and is pushed back by one of the lower teeth 10 until a corresponding upper tooth 11 arrives opposite a locking member 32. Movement in either direction is thus prevented. By interrupting the fluid supply, the pawl 20 is released, whereupon further supply of fluid will cause a further movement to the extent of one tooth. By interrupting the fluid supply through the inlet 36 and supplying fluid through an inlet 37, the detent 32 is released by raising a piston 28, and a spring 13 returns the rod to its initial position.
