Abstract

701,534. Change-speed control. ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY MOTORS, Ltd. May 14, 1952 [May 21, 1951], No. 11784/51. Class 80 (2) The busbar 12 of a preselector gear, e.g. of the Wilson type, is moved to the release position to pick up a,preselected one of a number of brakeoperating struts 13, by a piston 19, acting through lever mechanism (not shown) and supplied with hydraulic fluid from a pump 20 driven by the change-speed gear and reservoir 22, through a valve 18 operated by a solenoid 17 energized by a manual two-way switch 16 on a vehicle steering column, and automatically de-energized, to exhaust the piston through a restrictor 35 and permit spring return of the busbar by the completion of the release stroke of the latter actuating a two-way switch 14. The brake-struts 13 may be preselected by the usual camshaft or electrically as in Specification 690,045. According to the Provisional Specification the servo may be energized by engine suction.
