[Class 108 (i)] [Also in Group XXXI] In a vehicle having a combined body and chassis frame the hollow cross members of the chassis frame are connected to the box-like side members by passing through an opening in the inside wall of such side members and being extended to and secured to a panel extending between the upper and lower walls of such side members. Fig. 4 shows the hollow circular front cross member 31 projecting into the box-section side member 30 and being secured thereto by means of a panel 45 having flanges welded to the upper and lower walls of the side member and to the cross member. The panel 45 may have side flanges welded to the side walls of the side member 30 which consists of a channel member 30 closed by an outer panel 42. The central cross member 32 is secured similarly. The rear cross member 35, Fig. 3, is provided with brackets 36 to which the rear springs of the suspension may be secured and which may also support the luggage trunk. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also side pillars comprising inner and outer channels nested and secured together and at their ends secured to the side members and to brackets of the roof members. The rear pillar is of Z-formation and is provided with channels &c. for the rear quarter windows and secured to a side member and roof and to the panel of the wheel housing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
