491,189. Vehicle bodies. ZAVODY RINGHOFFER-TATRA AKCIOVA SPOLECNOST. Jan. 17, 1938; No. 1547. Convention date, Feb. 6, 1937. [Class 108 (i)] The rear of the streamline body of a. motor vehicle, preferably a rear-engine vehicle, is formed as an independent, hollow, metal portion 2 projecting freely front the main part 1 of the vehicle body without additional support from the chassis frame, and being fixed to the main part 1 only in a few places. As shown, the portion 2 comprises a bottom plate 3 and an inside plate 4 apertured. to reduce weight, and is secured to the main body-part 1 at the portions 5 above the road wheels, e.g. by welding or by bolts, the space enclosed by the portion 2 being separated from the part 1 by a wall 4a secured to either part. Preferably the portion 2 is additionally secured to the part 1 by connection along the edges of the wall 4a and front edges of the plate 4 and a plate 3a forming the bottom: of the rear space. A cover (not shown) for the portion 2 may be hinged at 6 to the part 1, and the weight of the cover may be taken directly by the part 1 or by a counterbalancing device fixed to the part 1.
