Abstract

A composition for the preservation and treatment of flexible transmission belts, ropes, &c. consists of an emulsion of 6 parts of tallow and 1 part of a wax such as beeswax or other ester of cerotic acid with 30 parts of water using 3 parts of soap as the emulsifying agent. The water is boiled, and the mixture is agitated until emulsification is complete, and it is then diluted with water until the emulsion has a density of about 0,950. The product is nonslipping in character, and should be applied over the whole surface of a belt &c. at least one hour before use. Specifications 19539/92, [Class 17], 461,715; and 473,506, [Group VI], are referred to.
