Abstract

488,434. Toy figures. HAUGHTON, W. H., and GORDGE, J. Jan. 14, 1937, No. 1133. [Class 132 (iii)] A face or head for toy figures such as dolls consists of a mask of flexible material such as stockinette, to the edges of slits in which, for the eyes and mouth, are secured lengths of lead or other soft metal wire or strip, so that by bending or curving the wires or strips, the expression can be altered. The back view of such a mask is shown in the figure, the flexible material being in five pieces A, B, C, D, E stitched together. Lengths of metal 12, 13 are arranged to form the mouth, and 4, 5 to form the eyes. A single length 16 bent on itself forms the nose and eyebrows. Ends or portions of the wires are secured together by tape wrappings 6, 7, 8, 14, 15, 17. The eye and mouth pieces are secured to the mask by turning the edges over the wires and sewing, cementing or otherwise securing them to the edges of the slits in the mask. The eyebrow and nose piece is sewn to the mask as shown. The mask is coloured or ornamented on the outside and is attached to or formed with the rest of the head and stuffed in the usual manner.
