This invention relates to stuit'ed toys, and has for one of its objects theprovision of an article of this character which, while it may be made in simulation of lVarious animals, will ill appearance possess all the characteristic featuresof a slrye terrier and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost. Y

The invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and al rangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the aclfompanying drawing, wherein:

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description, and designated in the several views of the accompanying drawing, by similar reference characters.

The toy comprises an envelope which is preferably made of gray flannelette and comprises similar side pieces 1 and 2. These parts conform generally to the body, sides of the head and outer sides of the legs of the animal to be simulated, and have their top edges connected together between the points a and b and the points e and d by lines of stitching 3 and 4, respectively. The front edges of these pieces are connected together between the points e and f by a line of stitching 5. A top piece 6 conforming generally to the top of the head of the animal, is of elliptical contour extends from point Z) to point c, and is connected to the side pieces 1 and 2 by lines of stitching 7. A front piece 8 conforming generally to the front side of the nose of the animal, is also of ellipticalcontour, extends from point e to point f and is connected to the side pieces 1926. Bottom pieces 10 conforming generally to the under side ol the body andr the inner sides of the legs of the animal, extending` from point j' to point l and having substantially straight inner edgesv 11 and vouter edges 12 similar .in contour to the bottom edges of the side pieces 1 and 2, are connected together along` their edges 11 by lines of stitching 13, and are connected alongk their edges 12 y to the bottom edges of the side pieces by s lilies of stitching 14. The manner in which the inner 'edges 11 of the bottom pieces 10 are connected together provides an opening 15 in the bottom side of the envelope. This openingpermits the envelope to be stuffed, and the lnaterial used for this purpose is preferably cotton. The bottom pieces 10 are provided alongside the opening 15 with llems 16 in which are arranged and secured form n'laintaining wires 17. These parts extend longitudinally of the envelope and are located at opposite sides of the opening 15. After the envelope has been stuffed the opening is closed by stitching the side walls thereof together. The bottom pieces 10 are provided forwardly beyond the wires 17 with form maintaining wires 18 which are of arcuate formation and extend transversely of the envelope.

s The ears 19 are each made of two pieces of gray lannelette which are connected together by lines of stitching 20. Form maintaining wires 21 are encased in the ears 19 and are provided with eyes 22. Lines of stitching 23 engaging the side pieces l and 2,

the ears 19 and the eyes 22 serve to secure is secured to the envelope and constitutes the tail 25 of the animal. Eyes 26 which may be made of glass or other suitable material are secured to the envelope. Strands 27 of light and dark gray yarn are secured to the envelope, ears 19 and tail 25. The yarn strands 27 are sewed to strips 28 through the me dium of which they are secured to the envelope. Two of the strips 28 and the yarn strands 27 carried thereby are sewed together as sllown at 29 in Figure 7 and are then sewed as at 30 to and along the back of the envelope. The yarn strands 27 of these strips are thence parted, as is also shown in said ligure, so as to hang down the sides of the envelope. The relnaining strips 28 carrying the yarn strands 27, are sewed to the envelope in such manner that each strip will be hidden from view by its own or the yarn strands 0f another or other strips. The strips 28 that are sewed to and along the back of the envelope are hidden from vieiv by the yarn strands carried thereby.

In appearance the toy will possess-as will be apparent. from an examination oi Figure l-all the characteristic features of a skye terrier. It is to be understood, however, that the toy may be made to simulate other animals, and that various changes and modiiications may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and scope of the same.
