Abstract

488,366. Photo-electric apparatus for testing level of contents of and sorting containers. ROSE, A. G., and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. Dec. 5, 1936, No. 33381. [Class 40 (iii)] The level of substances in cartons 2 carried by a conveyer 1 is detected by means of a photo-electric system comprising a source of light 3 with means for throwing a beam of light on the surface of the substances in the container, and a photo-cell 4 adapted to receive reflected light if the level is between c and d. If the level is above or below these limits, light fails to reach the cell 4, and an amplifier 5 connected thereto causes a solenoid 6 to close a switch 7 to operate an ejecting device to eject the faulty carton. The light source and the photo-cell are adjustably mounted.
