Abstract

488,173. Valves. ULDALL, P. Jan. 27, 1938, No. 2673. Addition to 446,040. [Class 135] A pump-actuated draw-off tap has a lift valve member connected to an actuating diaphragm 16 backed by a cup-shaped washer 15 by a cotter pin 18 engaging the valve stem. The diaphragm is held against a shoulder on the casing by a lower chamber 8, provided in its upper wall 9 with a seat for a non-return loose-ball valve 10. The pump plunger 12 which is reciprocated by a hand lever 13 is slidably mounted in an upper chamber 7 provided in its upper wall with seats for four non- return loose-ball valves 11. The two chambers which are secured in position by a screwed plug 22 are spaced away from the main casing to leave a discharge clearance 5 connected by a hole 4 with the main conduit 6. As the lever is operated, water in the chamber 8 is withdrawn through non-return valve 10 and discharged through non-return valves 11 thus causing a reduction of pressure above the diaphragm 16 which opens the valve 17.
