Abstract

488,021. Directive wireless signalling. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. May 11, 1937, No. 10423/38. Convention date, May 14, 1936. Divided out of 483,427. [Class 40 (v)] The directional characteristic of a receiving aerial system consisting of a directional and a non-directional aerial is periodically varied to enable an indication of correct course to be obtained when utilizing an ordinary transmitter as a beacon transmitter. The pickups from the frame aerial R and the non- directional aerial are combined in series by transformers and supplied via terminals K1, K2, to the input of a suitable receiver. The polarity of the voltage appearing across transformer secondary S3 is periodically reversed by operation of switch 2 which causes rectifier W1 or W2 to be in the conductive condition. Switch 2 is operated jointly with a switch 1 by a relay Rl which closes when condenser C1 has charged to a certain voltage through resistance R8, the condenser then discharging relatively rapidly through resistance R7 and releasing the relay. In this manner the time intervals during which the relay is energized and de-energized, causing the aerial outputs to be added in like or opposite phase, differ in length according to the difference in duration between dashes and dots.
