487,752. Drying gases. COMPAGNIE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ELECTROMETALLURGIQUES ALAIS, FROGES, ET CAMARGUE. Nov. 30, 1937, No. 33033. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1936. [Class 34 (i)] Moist mixtures of carbon dioxide and ammonia are dried by means of an organic hygroscopic liquid of low volatility such as glycerine, or glycol or non-volatile derivatives such as the polyglycols or triethanolamine. The drying liquid is maintained at a sufficiently high temperature to inhibit condensation of solid products at the pressure employed, such as carbamate or carbonate of ammonia. Any carbon dioxide and ammonia dissolved in the liquid may be driven off, such as by distillation, and the liquid may be regenerated, preferably by vacuum distillation. The mixed gases to be dried may be obtained from the distillation of ammonia carbonate solutions derived from impure gases or when produced in the preparation of urea from carbon dioxide and ammonia.
