Abstract
546,670. Purifying acids. SHELL DEVELOPMENT CO. Jan. 21, 1941, No. 821. Convention date, Jan. 27, 1940. [Class 1 (ii)] Sulphuric and chlorsulphonic acids are purified from organic impurities and obtained in concentrated form by promptly diluting the acid to form 35 per cent. to 60 per cent. after contamination and cooling it during dilution, removing the tarry and like impurities thereby separated, converting the remaining impurities into a readily filterable form and concentrating the acid by feeding it into a quantity of sulphuric or chlorsulphonic acid at a high temperature, removing the separated organic impurities and further concentrating the acid.
