Abstract

Nickel oxime compounds are prepared by adding a solid oxime to dilute aqueous solutions of nickel and separating the nickel-oxime formed from the solutions. Oximes specifically mentioned are dimethyl-glyoxime, alphabenzildioxime, cycloheptanedione-dioxime, diacetyldioximemonomethyl ether, dicarbamidoglyoxime, oxalenediaminoxime, phenylglyoxime, benzamidioxime, diacetylmonoxime, iminodiacetylmonoxime, pyridylmethylketoxime and salicylaldoxime.ALSO:Nickel is recovered from dilute aqueous solutions thereof by adding a solid oxime to the solution thus precipitating a nickeloxime compound, separating the nickeloxime formed from the solution, and treating with acid to dissolve the nickel and leave a residue of oxime which is separated and used again in solid form (conveniently as a slurry) in the treatment of fresh nickel-containing solution. Oximes specifically mentioned are dimethylglyoxim, alpha - benzildioxime, benzoylmethylglyoxime, cyclohexanedionedioxime, cycloheptanedionedioxime, diacetyldioximemonomethyl ether, dicarbamidoglyoxim, oxalenediaminoxim, phennylglyoxime, benzamidioxime, diacetylmonoxime, ioninodiacetylmonoxime, pyridylmethylketoxime and salicyaldioxime. During the addition of the oxime the pH of the solution is preferably at least 3.15. For the decomposition of the nickel-oxime compound the acid preferred is sulphuric acid in a concentration between 1 N and 5 N.
