Abstract

487,715. Batteries; electrodeposition of metals. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. April 29, 1937, No. 12280. Convention date, May 15, 1936. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 41 and 53] An accumulator plate or electrode comprises a metal support which is covered with an unattackable material provided with perforations which are filled with a conducting substance which makes contact with the metal support and with an outer layer of active material. The perforated material may be applied to a protective metal layer covering the support. The support may be made of aluminium, magnesium or an alloy of these metals and may be in the form of a grid or rod &c. The covering material may consist of perforated or porous ebonite or rubber, the perforations or pores of which are filled with lead, iron or nickel by making the covered support the cathode in an electrolytic bath of a salt of the metal. In another method the support which may be of aluminium is first covered with a protective layer of lead and then with a layer of microporous rubber and is then soaked in a solution of a lead salt and then immersed in sulphuric acid or a sulphate. The precipitated lead sulphate is reduced to lead by electrolysis in sulphuric acid. The electrode is finally pasted with active material.
