Abstract
487,559. Heating water by electricity. HUME PIPE CO. (SOUTH AFRICA) Ltd. Aug. 30, 1937, No. 23674. Convention date, Sept. 3, 1936. [Class 39 (iii)] In an electrical waterheater wherein the water is heated in flow by passing current therethrough, the electrodes are enclosed in a metal container 2 earthed by its water supply pipe, the container further being provided with a substantially water impervious internal lining 11 of material which protects it from corrosion and has heat and electrical insulating properties. The lining may be Portland cement concrete. The electrodes comprise plates mounted on rods 16, 17 and 18. The plates are cut away so that they can be intercalated and are spaced by distance pieces formed of metal and insulating material. The leads 23 are housed in a dome-shaped cover 7 which may be of metal and connected to casing 2 in order to earth it.
