Abstract
487,304. Automatic adjustment of brakes. SVENSKA AKTIEBOLAGET BROMSREGULATOR. Nov. 26, 1937, No. 32737. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1936. [Class 103 (i)] In an automatic slackadjuster for brakes in which the slack may be reduced by an actuating device or may be increased by the action of the initial brake application stress on a non-selflocking screw connection, the rotation of which is stopped by means of a friction clutch, 12 13 one of the clutch members 12 is in the shape of a ridge 16 in order to maintain the coefficient of friction of the clutch constant regardless of the amount of lubricant present. One part 2a of the screw connection carries a ratchet wheel 7 adapted to be turned to reduce slack on brake release by a pawl 8 operated by the movement of the brake mechanism, the clutch 12, 13 being simultaneously released by cams 11, 10 operated by the rotatable casing 9 carrying the pawl 8. Cams 10, 11 allow re-engagement of the clutch during brake application. In a modification the clutch member 12 is provided with two parallel edges 16. In a fourth modification the engaging faces are at right-angles to the axis of the device. The ridge 16 may be of oval or spiral form.
