Abstract
<PICT:0487223/III/1> A gaseous mixture containing ammonia, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen sulphide is obtained by heating concentrated ammonia liquor and/or gas liquor in an ammonia still 4. It is mixed with air or oxygen supplied by the fan 5 and passed over an oxidation catalyst 12, e.g. a platinum or platinum-rhodium gauze. The reacted gases are passed through a condenser 14 in which the greater part of the sulphuric acid formed is separated and collected in a tank 15, and the residual gases are mixed with a further supply of air through the meter 18 and passed through an oxidation tower 17 and absorption towers 19-22 fed with water in countercurrent, yielding nitric acid.
