Abstract

487,212. Cycle pedals. STARIGK, K., and SCHMITZ, K. H. Jan. 19, 1938, No. 1750. [Class 136 (ii)] In a cycle pedal of the type in which rubber or like tread blocks 9 are mounted on threaded pins 8 which also serve to clamp the end plates 6, 7 in position, the pedal spindle 1 is formed at one end with flat-bottomed and diametricallyopposed recesses 2, Fig. 5, to receive and fix a pressed-in ring 3 adapted to bear against the end plate 6, the other end of the spindle 1 being formed with a circumferential groove 4 to receive a divided ring 5 adapted to engage a recess 10 in the outer face of the end plate 7. The parts of the pedal are assembled and disassembled by compressing the blocks 9, by means of the threaded pins 8, sufficiently to enable the divided ring 5 to be inserted in or removed from the groove 4. The ring 3 is provided with flats so that it can serve as a nut for screwing the spindle 1 into the crank. Roller bearings may be provided between the spindle 1 and the end members 6, 7.
