Abstract
531,095. Shaft collars. DALRYMPLE, F. H. June 27, 1939, No. 18721. [Class 80 (ii)] A shaft collar is built up of at least one plate 1 with a bore to receive the shaft, and having circumferentially-spaced blocks 2 secured thereto as by welding at 3, the blocks being threaded to receive screws 5 for securing the collar to the shaft. The blocks 2 may have line contact with the shaft, or may be curved to bear thereon, or they may be constituted by standard square nuts, in which case the headed screws 5 are replaced by set-screws with socketed outer ends. The plates 1 may be formed with abutting flanges on the inner or outer peripheries, or both. Fig. 20, shows a split collar formed of spaced half-plates 55, 56 connected together by the blocks 57 for receiving the screws 59, the two halves being held on to the shaft by a screw 63 passing through a hole in a block 62 on one half, and screwing into a corresponding block 60 on the other half; or the blocks 60, 62 may be arranged at different radii so as to take a radial screw when fitted together.
