Abstract

464,561. Crank brackets for cycles. HUTTON, W., and HAMMOND, E. B. Aug. 11, 1936, No. 22084. [Classes 136 (ii) and 136 (iii)] A crank bracket for bicycles, tricycles, &c. is provided with a substantially vertical slot in which the crank bearing is adjustable so that the length between the saddle and crank spindle can be varied to suit the rider without altering the position of the saddle, and means for securing the bearing in its adjusted position comprising end flanges carried by the bearing, interfitting projections and recesses provided on the flanges and in the sides of the bracket, or vice versa, and screw means for locking the parts together after adjustment. The crank spindle 1 is carried by ball bearings in a bush 2, which is slidably adjustable in a vertical slot 4 in the crank bracket 5. Each face of the bracket 5 is provided with a series of horizontal slots 6 to receive pins 8, Fig. 4, on a flange 7 of the bush 2 and on a clamping-ring or washer 9, which is locked in position by a threaded ring or nut 11 screwing on the end of the bush 2.
