Abstract
Long staple fibres are obtained from hemp by subjection to the following treatments: (1) a heat treatment with a solution of caustic soda, sodium carbonate, calcium bisulphide and hydrochloric acid; (2) wash in tepid and then in cold water; (3) steep in a solution of sodium hypochlorite and sodium silicate; (4) wash; (5) dip rapidly in dilute sulphuric acid; (6) wash; (7) steep in a solution of sodium hypochlorite and soap; (8) squeeze; (9) ripen in closed chamber for 10-12 hrs. at 30 DEG C.; (10) steep in solution of soap, ammonium sulphate and magnesium sulphate; (11) squeeze, dry and hackle.
