Abstract
In bleaching undyed cotton or other cellulosic fibres, the materials are subjected to a preliminary independent treatment in a strongly caustic alkaline peroxide bath before the usual caustic alkaline boil. They are thereafter preferably subjected to an alkaline peroxide or a chlorine bleach. The peroxide bath may comprise sodium peroxide or caustic alkali and hydrogen peroxide with or without waterglass and/or other stabilizers or wetting-out agents. In an example raw cotton goods are treated for 3\ba1/2\be hours in a sodium peroxide solution at 85 DEG C., are then subjected to the usual boil in a caustic soda lye and, preferably, subjected to a final bleach in a cold chlorine solution or in a second similar peroxide bath.
