Abstract

486,614. Screw propellers. FAIRHURST, L. G. Dec. 23, 1936, No. 35273. [Class 114] Variable-pitch air screws in which a load is placed on the air-screw blades, away from the hub, in the direction in which centrifugal force operates, is characterized in that one or more springs are disposed between the blade root and the hub. The root of the blade A carries a flange F<1> and cylinder F in which is disposed a reversed cylinder G having a central spike G<3> and retaining nut G4. Between these two telescopic cylinders are springs G<1>. The base of the cylinder G is formed with a spherical surface engaging a corresponding surface on a flange H secured to shaft H<2>. The studs E<3> for holding the ring F<1> in place are continued, and support a plate E<2> having outer castellations which act as a lock for a final securing ring E<1> on the assembly. The latter ring holds in place a ring E which carries the part D<3> that is coupled to the pitch varying mechanism.
