Abstract
486,309. Ironing -machines. BOYLE, E. H., and BAKER PERKINS, Ltd. Dec. 1, 1936, No. 32948. [Class 138 (ii)] Before being fed to an ironing-machine or - press, flat articles such as handkerchiefs, towels or sheets are wrapped in succession upon a core member which is then carried to guides positioned in front of the usual feed tapes and unwrapped on to the feed tapes. This procedure saves smoothing out each article as it is fed to the ironer by the operator and the consequent waste of ironing space. For winding the articles the core 26 may be supported on two rollers 10, 11 driven in the same direction, and the core is driven by frictional engagement therewith. A roller 28 carried by pivoted arms 29 may press on the core to maintain it in contact with the rollers. The articles 27 are lifted by the operator from a box 25, smoothed out and fed over an inclined table 24 on to the core. In a modification the core may be supported by a re-entrant portion of a constantly driven endless apron.
