Abstract
486,092. Feeding bar - stock. FORKARDT, R. Nov. 27, 1936, No. 32603. Convention date, Feb. 26, 1936. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 28, 1937.] [Class 83 (iii)] Stock feeding and gripping gear for a lathe &c. comprises a piston 7 reciprocated by compressed air or fluid under pressure in a cylinder 1 carried by the machine spindle 3, the piston being connected with the feeding and gripping device in such a manner that the piston first closes the device during its forward movement and then feeds forward the stock until the work-holding chuck is tightened and during its return, first opens the device and then moves idly back with it. A sleeve member 8 slidable within the spindle 3 rotatably carries a disc 11 which has a circular extension 11a engaging a slot in the piston 7 and an adjustable bolt 12, the end of which is adapted to engage the stock 10. Forward movement of the piston 7 serves first to rotate the disc 11 and thus force the bolt 12 in engagement with the stock and the latter is thus moved forward the desired amount, rearward movement of the piston disengages the gripping bolt and allows the sleeve 8 to be moved idly back over the stock. Specification 486,091 is referred to.
