Abstract
461,462. Bar-feeds. HERBERT, Ltd., A., LLOYD, A. H., and TIPPLE, E. W. Feb. 12, 1936, No. 4230. [Class 83 (iii)] In a lathe or like machine-tool, bar-feeding means comprise the combination with a slidable member adapted to frictionally engage the bar and to be moved back relatively to it, at any time while the latter is gripped by the chuck, by means of a manually-operable actuator, of means for biassing the slidablemember to feed the bar forward automatically as soon as the chuck is opened. The slidable member, in the form of a sleeve 14, has gripping fingers at its forward end and is rotatably and releasably secured at its rear end to a cross-head member 16 slidable along guide rails 22, 23. The sleeve is moved back .relatively to the bar-stock by a lever 32 which moves the cross-head through link gear and a pin and slidable block, the backward motion of the cross-head being limited, according to the length of stock desired to be fed, by an adjustable stop 33. The stock is automatically fed forward when the chuck is opened by a weight 28 connected by a cord to the crosshead 16.
