Abstract

1,140,494. Bar stock feeding and supporting. HAGENUK. 24 Feb., 1967, No. 8833/67. Headings B3B and B3T. A feed device for use in automatic lathes of the type in which bar stock or tubes supplied from a magazine are fed by a reciprocating gripper to the main collet in the spindle of the lathe, is characterized by intermediate gripping means being incorporated to remove the residue of the bar or tube prior to the insertion of a new bar or tube. The intermediate gripping means comprises jaw members 10, 11 which are actuated to grip the bar when the feed collet 4 and rod 2 are in the retracted position and which withdraws the bar residue from the feed collet 4. The residue is then released by the jaws to fall clear of the machine. When the movement of the jaws is such as not to contact the bar or residue the switch 11 is actuated to stop the machine.
