Abstract

578,284. Drilling-machines. FISHER, G. Oct. 8, 1943, No. 16473. [Class 83 (iii)] A machine for bevelling the interior edges of piston rings &c. has two opposed annular cutters 11 carried by spindles 12 which -are fed axially to and from the work 3 by cams 15, levers 14 and springs 13. The cutters pass through work heads 1, 2 carrying work-engaging rests 8, the head 1 being stationary and the head 2 moved' axially to grip and release the work by a lever and a cam located adjacent one of the cams 15, all the cams being carried by the main driving shaft 5. When the head 2 recedes, the finished work is pushed out by the' succeeding blank which is forced from the end position in a shoot (not shown) by a reciprocating arm or lever and introduced between the heads, being positioned on the rests 8 by a finger 8x, Fig. 5, pivoted at 17 on a bracket 18<1> adjustable on the head 1 and resting on a stop 19<1>. After the head 2 has advanced and gripped the blank, the cutters are advanced and retracted before the finished work is released. The head 2 may be swung about the axis of the shaft 5 for inspection of the cutters &c. and is held in the operative position shown by a locking pin 16. The cutters are driven by gearing 18 ... 22, either in the same or opposite directions, from the shaft 5.
