Abstract
856,220. Lathes. PASQUALE, C., GAMBERA, F., and REGIS, L., [trading as R.C.M. REVISIONE COSTRUZIONE MACCHINE]. April 7, 1959, No. 11733/59. Class 83 (3). A machine for turning, cutting-off and facing both ends of a pipe T simultaneously, comprises two machining-heads 2 adjustable along a bed 1, each head including a work-driving-spindle 3 and tool-holders 6, 6a supporting respectively a turning tool 13 and a cutting-off and facing tool 14, and the tool-holders being retractable longitudinally to permit lateral delivery of the abestos-cement &c. pipes T. The spindles are driven, through shafts 16, from a central drivebox 15, and the pipes are delivered along adjustable inclined guides 18, Fig. 2, by alternate operation of a pair of hydraulic release devices 20, 21. Rollers 24, on brackets 22 pivoted on vertical slides 25, support the work before and after machining, when it is held by expanding grippers 4 on the spindles, which are retracted towards the headstocks after release of the work. The brackets 22 are pivoted hydraulically into the lowered position during machining. Opposite sides of each headstock 2 have brackets 8, Fig. 3, guiding rods 5, 5a which carry the tool-holders 6, 6a. Hydraulic cylinders 9, 9a between the brackets effect fast traverse and feed of the tool-holders, which have lateral cylinders 11, 11a for pistons 12, 12a, Fig. 5, carrying the tools. Operation.-In the hydraulic circuit, Fig. 5, connections for only one of the headstocks are shown. The tool-holders 6, 6a are traversed by cylinders 9 until holder 6a for the cutting-off and facing tool 14 is stopped by a stop-screw 61, carried by rods 5a, engaging a stop 60 on a piston 59. The traverse of holder 6 for turning tool 13 is reduced to feed by a cam 42, which operates on a valve 40 to restrict the flow passage from the front of cylinder 9. Feed of tool-holder 6 is stopped by a stop 43 carried by rods 5, which also carry an abutment for closing a switch 44. Radial-feed of tool 14 occurs when a stop 56 on the rod 5a opens a valve 55, which allows escape of oil from the piston-rod end of cylinder 11a under the control of a regulator 54. An abutment 57 on the pistonrod operates a distributer valve 52, which connects cylinder 58 for piston 59 to exhaust, so that the feed of tool-holder 6a by cylinder 9a may be resumed for end-facing the pipe under the control of a regulator 53. At the end of this operation, an abutment on piston 59 closes a switch 62 in series with switch 44 and reverses supply valves 34, 35. This retracts the toolholders and tool 14 hydraulically, and allows a spring 15 to return tool 13.
