485,594. Treating liquids with gases ; revivifying gas purifier waste. ROGERS, F. H. (Koppers Co.) Nov. 23, 1936, No. 32029. [Class 55 (ii)] Sulphided washing liquids from gas purification plant are regenerated by introduciiig air and liquid at the bottom of a tower, withdrawing the liquid and freed sulphur at the top 12 of the tower and returning the liquid out of contact with air through an inner coaxial pipe 18 to the base of the tower for retreatment. The annular space between the outer casing 10 and the inner pipe is divided by two vertical radial walls 16 into two compartments 17, 19, so that liquid passing up one is returned by the pipe 18 to the base 22 of the other. Vertical vanes 20 in the compartments prevent surging. Liquid passes at the top into a header 12 having a circular trough 13 with an inclined base and outlet 15 collecting floating sulphur, and is delivered by pipes 29, 21 through a float chamber 31 to the top of the pipe 18. Air enters by a pipe 26 and may be fed through a valve 27 to the liquid feed pipe 25.
