[Classes 8 (i) and 102 (i)] In a pump or compressor the piston ring b is movable axially in its groove and acts as the discharge valve by controlling a passage e from the ring groove to the interior of the piston. To facilitate reversal of the ring, the lower edge of the ring is chamfered and the upper face of the groove recessed, as shown.
