Abstract

Belts of rubber-impregnated fabric are moulded to shape at room temperature or lower. The fabric is wound spirally to substantially cylindrical form and moulded in one or more operations. Two cylindrical belts may be superposed to produce the final form. In an example given, suitable for moulding at 40-50 DEG F. below zero, a mix of rubber 79 per cent, mineral and palm oils 9 3/4 per cent, zinc oxide 7 per cent, sulphur 2 1/2 per cent, butyraldehyde-aniline accelerator 3/4 per cent, and an antioxidant 1 per cent is used, and solid carbon dioxide is sprayed on the cylindrical belt packed into the mould. The belt when moulded is hard and thus suitable for working by tools. Vulcanization is effected at about 286 DEG F. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to U.S.A. Specification 1,989,168.
