Abstract

483,423. Flying-boat hulls. SHORT BROS. (ROCHESTER & BEDFORD), Ltd., and GOUGE, A. April 23, 1937, No. 11644. [Classes 4 and 113 (ii)] A flying-boat hull has cross-frames composed of horizontal floor members a and inclined bottom members b, the flanges a<2>, b<2> of which are directed towards each other, and connected by framing composed either of tubular braces c, or plate webs. The bottom plating f is supported by longitudinal stringers e which extend across the frames and are secured to the bottom members b by brackets e<1>. The keel is formed of a Tee-section bar with rounded flanges d<1>, d<2>, the web being connected by brackets d<5> to the framing. The bottom plating is joggled at the laps, these laps being placed on stringers which are situated inwardly an amount to allow for the extra plating thickness.
