Abstract
483,307. Electroplating. SMITH, S. K., DODD, H., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Oct. 14, 1936, No. 27942. [Class 41] Parts of articles not to be plated are stopped off with a film of a wax-like chlorinated naphthalene applied in the following way. The articles are first painted over the areas to be plated with a " resist " consisting of a solution of a water-soluble adhesive and a water-soluble plasticizing agent, e.g. a solution of gum arabic and glycerol. After drying they are dipped into a melt of a wax-like chlorinated naphthalene and allowed to drain. The waxlike film breaks away from the resist-coated parts but adheres elsewhere. The resist is then removed by solution in warm water.
