Abstract
The resistance of textiles to creasing is enhanced by impregnation with a water-soluble formaldehyde condensation product such as dimethylolurea, and if desired a softening-agent, and then conducting the drying of the impregnated material so that there is present an ammonium salt of a strong acid which at a temperature below 100 DEG C. sets free acid. Suitable salts are ammonium chloride, sulphate and formate, and acid ammonium phosphate. After impregnation, the material is pressed or centrifuged to a desired extent, and if desired allowed to remain in a closed chamber, for example, by being enveloped in a rubber cloth; the material is afterwards dried, and if desired soaped. In examples, ammonium chloride with in one case an addition of monosodium phosphate is used as the source of acid, and a mixture of sulphonated or non-sulphonated mono-cetyl ester of phthalic acid employed as the softening-agent.
