Abstract

482,712. Centrifugal gas-cleaners. BROCK, C. A. Sept. 29, 1936, No. 26391. [Class 23] [Also in Group XXVIII] Air entering at the lower part of a casing 30 passes by a port 60 to a centrifugal filter 200 which separates the bulk of the dust and delivers it to a receptacle 32. The air thus partly purified is drawn by a four-stage fan 154 through the filter, and passes out through a final filter 86. The lower edge and flange of the centrifugal filter co-operate with fan blades 238 carried by the main fan shaft, which blades cause an outflow of air between the flange and the wall 136 which supports the receptacle 32 and the upper bearing of the fan shaft. The filter may be grooved, with slots at the bases of the grooves. A device 243, comprising a hub freely rotatable on the fan shaft and a pair of radial blades, is brought into rotation by air-drag and maintained in rotation by inertia, and blows deposited dust from the filter when the air flow has ceased by stoppage of the rotation of the fan and filter. In a modification, the air which has entered the filter is diverted through a bag filter beforo reaching the fan. Specification 195,141, [Class 23], is referred to.
