Abstract

482,686. Regulating compressors. HOERBIGER, J. R., and HOERBIGER, A., (trading as HOERBIGER & CO.). Feb. 23, 1937, No. 5466. Convention date, Feb. 24, 1936. [Class 8 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] The output of an air or gas compressor is controlled by adjusting the moment at which the spring - loaded suction valve closes during the discharge stroke of the piston. The suction, valve is acted upon in the direction of opening by an electromagnet 23 which is connected to the power lines through a switching device which comprises a plate 11 rotated at the same speed or half the speed of the compressor. A contact bridge is adjusted by hand or automatically and cooperates with discs 12, 13 arranged on the plate 11 to vary the point at which the current to the coil 23 is reversed. When the current is reversed the suction valve closes and the electromagnet is not powerful enough to open it against the compression then taking place in the cylinder. In a modification two coils are provided to a valve and the current flows through them alternately in opposite directions.
