Abstract
482,651. Knitting. M.B.C. VENDORS, Ltd., BROMLEY, T. C., and SHORTLAND, A. Aug. 1, 1936, No. 21361. [Class 74 (ii)] A plain, rib, or patterned fabric, has across the face thereof unknitted bights or floats 1, Fig. 1, of yarn that is elsewhere formed into stitches or is interknitted, interlooped, bound in the surrounding fabric. Fig. 2 shows a fabric with two yarns B, A knitted alternately and floated at front and rear respectively whilst in a further example the yarn B, when not floated, is knitted with the yarn A at some needle wales and otherwise held at other needle wales. The fabric is produced on a flat or circular machine having one or two needle beds and means for so feeding or acting upon the yarn that, when floats are to be produced, it is located between the backs of the needles and the loops of a previous course. This may be effected by providing a cylinder &c. 19, Fig. 7, with slidably mounted transferring instruments 18-16 which remove and hold loops r away from selected needles during the laying of the pattern yarn B. Alternatively the loops r may be lifted by the butts of latch needles projected into the upper of two superposed cylinders-or by hooks of double ended latch needles with the latches at one end removed.
