[Class 12 (i)] In a bearing for a rotating or sliding shaft t, the bearing clearance is adjusted by varying the pressure on an incompressible fluid inclosed between a rigid surrounding member a and a relatively compressible circumferentially continuous liner c. As shown, the fluid is forced into an annular recess b from a hand - operated pump h. A spring- actuated relief valve u and a handoperated relief valve v may be inserted in the system. The pressure fluid may be oil and the pump may be poweroperated.
