[Class 83(iv)] In a process for imparting compound longitudinal and transverse bends to sheets a carriage draws the sheet through stationery curved rolls while curved rolls are moved over the sheet in the opposite direction. The sheet 65 is clamped to a carriage 64 moved by chains 72 on a table 54 by an electromotor 68. Concave and convex rolls 19, 18 are mounted in a fixed frame 10 and similar rolls 27, 28 are carried in arms 29 swung about pivots 31 by an electromotor 32. The rolls 27, 28 are carried in slides moved radially of the arms 29 by an electromotor 44. The curved rolls 27, 28 and 18, 19 are mounted in frames which can be reversed in the frames 29, 10. The sheet may be flanged and knurled rolls 94 driven by the chains 72 engage the flange and assist the feed. The clamp 65 is lowered on the carriage 64 as the bending proceeds by an electromotor 82. In operation, the sheet is clamped to the carriage 64 and the motors are started to pull the sheet through the rolls to effect the transverse bend and to lower the clamp. The arms 29 are swung anticlockwise, Fig. 2, to effect the longitudinal bend. Radial movement of the rolls' 27, 28 by the electromotor 44 modifies the longitudinal bend. The angle of the table 54 may be varied from a hand wheel 62. In repetition work, the motors may be controlled by switches 98 adjusted along the table. As the carriage moves over the table the switches are closed by a shoe 99 to vary the resistance and the speed of three phase motors, Fig. 9 (not shown).
