Abstract
594,199. Altering physical structure ; straightening. KRUSE, P. June 28, 1945, No. 16514. Convention date, July 15, 1943. [Class 83 (iv)] To condition can body blanks to facilitate uniform bending the blanks are bent through an arc of more than 180 degrees and then in a reverse direction through an arc of about 90 degrees. The blanks are fed by a cam operated picker 25 to feed rolls 20, 21 and are guided about a bending roll 16 by a support 60 and a feed roll 23. They are then reversely bent between rolls 18, 20 and delivered to feed-bars 14 of a can-making machine. The feed roll 21 is mounted on a lever 75 carrying an adjustable deflector blade 70, If two blanks are inadvertently fed the roller 21 rises and the blade 70 is lowered to deflect the blanks from the machine. To remove curvature of blanks leaving the rolls 18, 20 the blank is fed through flattening plates 80, 81. The plate 81 is resiliently mounted and the plate slightly tilted to provide an edge which rubs on the blank to effect straightening.
