Abstract

314,744. Ziler, C. H. April 23, 1928. Divided on 314,625. Angular bending; c o i l i n g; bending- dies shearing- adjuncts. - A machine for coiling wire springs is provided with means for severing the springs from the stock consisting of a reciprocating cutter and a shear block having cooperating portions for bending the end of the stock laterally so that a subsequent spring may be attached to its support without performing a separate operation for this purpose. The stock 3 is drawn by rolls 2 through straightening rollers 12 and through a gripper 14 for retracting the wire prior to formation of a new spring as described in Specification 314,745, and is fed by the rolls 2 through guide rolls 4 and against a roller 5 on an arm 6 oscillated by a cam 11, lever 10, adjustable tappet 9 and arm 8 on a rock shaft 7. The pitch of the spring is determined bv a block 95 and the turns are compressed to give them the desired set by an arm 96 provided with a projecting finger 97. The arm 6 is formed with a recess to provide a shear block 27 and a shoulder, which co-operate with a cam-operated reciprocating cutter 26 having a slanting nose 29 so as to sever the spring from the stock and to bend the end 28 of the stock laterally.
